Tour the First Floor of the Brown Mansion

The first floor has twelve rooms with four fireplaces. Tiffany chandeliers and Tiffany glass in the entry doors are just some of the many other outstanding features.

The plans for the mansion were started in 1898. The mansion was designed by Wilder and Wight of Kansas City, Missouri. Both were former students of Standford White. The mansion was completed in 1906.

The $125,000 cost was wholesale because Mr. Brown owned many of the businesses where the supplies were purchased.

The wood in the home was all hand selected by Mr. Brown. Not one single knot can be found any where in the home's wood. The first floor is pine; the second floor is pecan, and the third floor is maple. All the outside doors are oak, and the inside doors are pine. The beautiful stairway is oak as well. All the upper and lower trim in the various rooms is mahogany, while the trim around the doorways is walnut. All the pillars in the home are mahogany. The attractive hutch in the dining room is birch, walnut, and mahogany. The library is paneled in birch. The inglenook in the Great Hall is walnut and mahogany.
