Maid's Quarters

Several servants were needed to help run the large home and the extensive grounds.  Through the years  the Browns employed many different individuals to help care for the Mansion; some of them lived on the grounds.  Others lived elsewhere in Coffeyville and were daily workers at the home.  At times these servants included a cook, a butler, maids for cleaning, and four gardeners. The butler had a private room in the basement of the home

The other live-in help stayed in the servants’ quarters just east of the Mansion.  This house had two screen door openings onto the wide front porch, which seems to indicate that there were two separate living areas for the help.  Sometimes couples were employed, with the wife helping in the Mansion and the husband working on the grounds.

Today the servants’ quarters serve as a tourist welcome center and as the Mansion gift shop.  All tours of the Mansion depart from this building.
