Aviation History

  • Restored in 2007 by Mike DeRosa, Coffeyville Community College Art Instructor. This mural was restored with funds from the Coffeyville Area Community Foundation, the proceeds from the 3rd Annual Don Sprague Memorial Golf Tournament, and a grant from Wal-Mart.

This mural depicts the aviation history of Coffeyville. The Funk brothers, Joe and Howard, produced the Funk Airplane here from 1941-1948. The Inman Brothers operated a flying circus using their pet lion as the mascot. A flying school was in operation in Pfister Park and the Army Air Base was in full operation in the 40's.
